MIPTV: Mobile TV To Be Big—In A Few Years
(c) MocoNews
Some more new out of MIPTV/MILIA, where participants are optimistic about mobile TV and video, but don’t see the market becoming large for several years. “We’re just at the beginning of putting entertainment onto cellphones,” said Andrew Bud, executive chairman of the world’s largest mobile billing network, mBlox… It could take another two to three years at least before large numbers of mobile users can look forward to enjoying their daily TV or video fix on the move, he said. “This will be a terrific business by 2009 or 2010”, reports AFP via Australian IT.
Some other figures from the show:
--The European Commission estimates that the world mobile TV market will be worth a whopping $15.5 billion by 2009.
--JupiterResearch forecast that total advertiser spending on mobile marketing (excluding creative) was set to double from $1.4 billion in 2006 to $2.9 billion by 2011. (although another figure given for the mobile advertising market in 2006 was $421 million)
--The mobile content industry today is worth some $20 billion, nearly as much as the $30 billion Internet business...that revenue is still largely ringtone-driven, though.
